A full otolaryngologist (ENT) consultation involves a detailed evaluation of your ears, nose, throat, and related structures, followed by targeted diagnostic tests based on your symptoms.
Initial Evaluation
- Patient Intake: You’ll complete paperwork covering your medical history, current symptoms, medications, allergies, and insurance details.
- Symptom Discussion: The ENT specialist will ask about issues like hearing loss, sinus congestion, sore throat, hoarseness, balance problems, or sleep disturbances.
Common Diagnostic Tests
- Depending on your symptoms, the ENT may recommend:
1. Audiology Tests
* Hearing Test (Audiogram): Measures hearing sensitivity across frequencies.
* Tympanogram: Assesses eardrum mobility and middle ear pressure.
2. Endoscopic Exams
* Nasal Endoscopy: Uses a thin camera to view deep nasal passages and sinuses.
* Laryngoscopy: Examines vocal cords and throat for hoarseness or swallowing issues.
3. Allergy Testing
* Identifies allergens causing nasal congestion, sneezing, or throat irritation.
4. Throat Culture
* Detects bacterial infections like strep throat.
